Montpelier Hills

HuRTS are in Rushcutters today so back to my old friend in Neutral Bay. Start at the corner of Rawson/Eaton, finish at the corner of Lindsay/Highview. Gmap says 620m or 1240m round trip. This is always a killer and today was no exception. I was aiming for 6 reps which doesn’t sound like a lot but it is without question the hardest session I ever do. My best ever was 8 reps in just under 2:40 average from memory. I basically try to run consistent uphill reps (not easy) and keep the downhill recovery shorter than the uphill rep. As often happens with this session I had gut problems about halfway through, so there was an extra pit-stop after the 4th:

  1. 2:47 (2:30)
  2. 2:49 (2:29)
  3. 2:47 (2:32)
  4. 2:55 with turtle recall (6 mins including pit-stop)
  5. 2:49 (2:50)
  6. 2:47

Pretty happy to get through all six despite the interruption and the times are encouraging. Felt sick as a dog after the last rep but it will do me some good. Hope to do this session at least once a fortnight from now on. 14km including warm-up/cool-down.

In other news, Tom H publicised this blog on his blog and all of a sudden my page views are through the roof! He should be selling advertising space and endorsements. Hopefully the blog will help keep me honest but I’m going to have to watch what I say now. How long before Timmy starts the trash-talking??

…and in the words of Trevor McDonald “and finally…” news from Cambridge where distance runner takes pity on unfit muggers. Thanks to MPH for that one.

“turtle recall” – fantastic! A bodily function pun on an Arnie film. That’s journalistic gold.

Good to see you blogging mate! It’s boring as stale bread I’m sure for the majority, but who can not be entertained with such nuggets as a ‘turtle recall’ I’ll aim to add a turd/film reference in all my posts from now on.
