Happy Australia Day

Easy Tiger massage Friday morning. After telling all and sundry what a wimp I am he decided to prove it by sticking needles into my arse. I won’t lie: I was curled up in the foetal position squealing like a pig being castrated. Hate it. It is odd how I can actually quite enjoy the muscular discomfort of a gruelling mountain race, but put me on a table and start poking, prodding and pricking me, and I cant take it. Anyway, after much involuntary twitching and jerking I hobbled out with two sore hips but am now feeling much better. I’m working on the theory that something so uncomfortable has got to be doing something. My inner sceptic remains unconvinced though…

20km very easy Friday night. Feeling tired, need more sleep.

Couldn’t get out for a run until late afternoon today. I was dreading it because of the stifling humidity, but there was a breeze picking up which helped. Jogged 5km to Callan Park and then did the same hill repeats as last week. Started well with a 3:39, but as the session went on I got hotter and the reps got slower:

3:39, 3:42, 3:44, 3:48, 3:49, 3:53

By the sixth and final rep I was having a mental battle again just to complete the session. I guess that makes it the most important rep. In retrospect, the average pace was quicker than a week ago in worse conditions. 21km total for the day. Getting there gradually. Happy Australia Day!
