Taper Time

I’ve been snowed under at work and at home – so usual state of affairs the week before a big race. Anyway, started my taper after the Equaliser and have had a few rest days and cut most sessions short. Last weekend I had planned to run the Striders 10k but came down with the sniffles on Thurs/Fri so ran the local Sydney Parkrun 5k instead (1st, 16:35). Sunday was Miss B’s 5th birthday and in a fit of madness we invited her entire Kindy class so that was the most knackering “rest” day I’ve ever experienced. Special mention to the Procrastinating Baker for an incredible Angelina Ballerina cake:

This week I did half of each HuRTS session, so a 25 minute progressive tempo on Tuesday and four gate-to-gate reps today (Thurs) in 2:56 average. Now about to start my 24 hour carb load and might do 5k easy tomorrow morning before we head up to the mountains in the afternoon after school.

It is looking like a very competitive field for Six Foot this year with about 10 guys capable of sub-3:30 that I’m aware of. Will be interesting to see how things pan out. My aim is to ignore what everyone else is doing until after the river and then smash myself trying to run down as many as possible. It’s worked well in the past.

    Congrats on obtaining legend status , hope you recover well and use the rich vein your in to achieve more magnificent performances.
